Yesterday the Dallas Cowboys quarterback situation got interesting with the injury news for Kellen Moore who was listed as the second string quarterback. Moore suffered a fractured fibula that requires surgery. The timetable for his recovery is three to four months.
The Cowboys drafted Mississippi State’s Dak Prescott in hopes that he would be QB2 and the eventual starter. Unfortunately it seems as if Jameil Showers is ahead of him in the process. Showers being the undrafted free agent quarterback who is just now committed to playing the position full time.
Nick Foles is the popular name that is being tossed about. Foles was replaced in Los Angeles with number one draft pick Jared Goff. Foles was set to receive S7.75 million this season so one could presume it isn’t going to be cheap to get him.
Another option that this team loves is trading for a quarterback. The Cowboys shouldn’t use assets such as a disgruntled Ronald Leary or Darren McFadden. McFadden has become expendable due to his contract and a suddenly crowded backfield. Those two players should be tradebait for a pass rusher.
If history shows us anything the team will make a move for a veteran. Not including 2016, in five of the past six seasons the Cowboys will have a quarterback with at least seven seasons of service back up Tony Romo. Although in 2015 Cassel wasn’t the initial backup but once Romo’s injury occured the team went to get him.
