Potential Free Agents The Cowboys Should Target In 2016

The Dallas Cowboys had their worst season since 1989 when they were 1-15. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was not happy with the result, and there is a probability that the Cowboys will be big players in the free agency Market in 2016.  Tony Romo was injured twice with a broken collarbone and our number one receiver Dez Bryant was never his old self after he broke a bone in his foot after Week 1 versus the New York Giants.

The Cowboys were able to lock up defensive end Greg Hardy on a one year deal. All reports indicate its highly unlikely that he will be back in a Cowboys uniform in 2016 with that said here is a list of potential Free agents that the Cowboys must target to contend for the NFC East and hopefully a potential Super Bowl.

2016 Free Agents

Matt Forte, RB, Chicago Bears

It looks like the Bears will let Forte test the free agent waters as they are quite satisfied with Jeremy Langford at the running back position. If the Cowboys were able to sign Forte they would offer him something in the range of 6-8 million which is quite affordable for a running back of his caliber.

This would solidify our running game with Darren McFadden and whatever route the Cowboys front office decide to go with in the draft.

Travis Benjamin, WR, Cleveland Browns

The Cowboys saw how weak their wide receiver depth chart was when Dez Bryant was shelved with a injury. Travis Benjamin would be a welcomed edition to the cowboys and would spread the field and be a target for Tony Romo.

In 2015 Benjamin caught 66 passes for 966 yards with the Browns and scored five touchdowns. His base salary was 666,000, He would be looking in the range of 6-8 million for three years. If the Cowboys can afford him.

Bruce Irvin, OLB, Seattle Seahawks

Dallas needs to make their defense much stronger if they want to contend for a title in 2016 and Bruce Irvin would fit in nicely with Sean Lee and Rolando McClain if resigned. He also would be demanding in the 6-8 million dollar range and that would fit into Dallas salary cap needs.

During the season with the Seahawks, Irvin ended up recording 38 tackles, 5.5 sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and two defensed passes. If the Cowboys want to contend they must sign him as Carolina and Arizona are getting much Stronger. If they dont they could be in the middle of the pack.

Jerraud Powers, DB, Arizona Cardinals.

Another huge need this off season is the corner back position and Powers would fit that mold. Depending on what the cowboys do with Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne.

He ended up recording 52 tackles, two fumble recoveries, an interception and nine defensed passes this year. Those numbers would be an upgrade for the Dallas defense and would add a player who is more than capable of making big plays. Powers is a very underrated cornerback and could be had for around $3-5 million.
